ICP #38 | On taxi rides

The Uber driver is on the way to his step daughter’s 22nd birthday.

He likes to pick up passengers any time he’s coming back out of the city so he has someone to talk to. His first pick up took him to Brighton which was really out of his way but we’ve got him back on track now. He likes driving to the airport. His main job is at the airport actually, driving out suitcases to the planes but it’s four days on, four days off so he does this on the side.

He thinks they’re having a barbecue for the birthday.

He thinks we’ll like Spain. He went to China last year with his girlfriend but he’s never made it to Spain actually.

His ex-wife has asked him to pick up some Jack Daniels, but he’s already bought beers. They’re Japanese, the beers. They’re hiding by his feet so we can’t see them. His ex-wife left him for another man but they’re not together now either. Their separation was messy at the start but it’s ok these days.

That’s where his old house was, but it got knocked down to build flats. That’s happening loads round here. He wishes they’d never left that place.

That’s where he turns off when he goes to his job at the airport. He accidentally drove a passenger into the secured area once because she wasn’t very talkative and he forgot she was there. He doesn’t like it when passengers aren’t up for a chat.

He doesn’t reckon the Uber sat nav is up to much. He doesn’t like the way the Uber sat nav talks to him at all actually.
